The Saintsations Dance Team at St. Andrew’s Episcopal School is headed in a new direction this year with new Coaches Jasmine Johnson and Addison Sharp.
“It’s really a lot of fun for me to encourage and inspire all of these high school girls,” said Sharp. “I want them to have the same positive experience that I had.” Sharp is not only a St. Andrew’s Alumni but she was also a member of the Dance Team during her time at St. Andrew’s. During that time, the team was under the leadership of Ashley Maples. A lot of her high school coach’s views and methods inspired Sharp’s leadership, especially her dedication and enthusiasm. Her spirited personality and unwavering support have had a significantly positive impact on all the girls on the team.
Johnson has returned to work with the Dance Team, but her role in leadership has shifted. She has helped each individual girl grow as a dancer and works to support Sharp’s new position. “We’re like best friends,” said Johnson, “We work really well together and her experience with the team is very helpful.”
This year the coaches added technique classes to help with the structure and foundation of the team. The resulting improvement in the precision and quality of performance has brought the Saintsations to a new level. Additional changes, such as returning the team to UDA camps, have reinvigorated the program and the coaches are already brainstorming ideas for the future. Everyone is excited to see what this dynamic duo will do next. The girls on the team, both new and returning members, have positive things to say about both coaches. “They definitely push us to be our best,” Dance Team Junior Poppy Kerr said.” “It feels like we are all on this journey together.”
