Burton Williams-Inman and Joe Ray both changed positions in the coaching world of St. Andrew’s over a period of 12 weeks for the upcoming 2023-2024 Sports Season.
During the previous academic year (2022-2023), SA Baseball bid farewell to Burton Williams-Inman, former Assistant Coach.“I just wanted to have a full year where I’m teaching and attending to all my teaching duties,” Williams-Inman, who is also the 9th Grade History Teacher, said. “It just takes up a lot of your personal time.” Williams-Inman explained that he has enjoyed baseball his whole life, even playing some in college. “I love baseball, when I was playing it,” Williams-Inman said, “but, I would kind of wish I had more free time.”
Heading into the 2023-2024 season, St. Andrew’s faced a gap in the golf coaching role. The previous coach, Colin Dunnigan, relocated to Nashville, closer to his extended family. Additionally, golf had shifted from a spring to a fall sport for the first time in years, leaving just a few weeks before the season commenced. Unexpectedly, Strength & Conditioning Coach, Joe Ray, stepped up to fill the void. “I was given the opportunity to take over the golf team this year,” Ray said, “but I was only given notice about a week before the season started.” Ray previously coached the golf team beginning in 2003 and achieved many accomplishments during that time. “I was awarded golf coach of the year three times,” Ray said, “twice by the state, and once by the National Federation of High School Coaches.”
Coaching staff positions at SA require a lot of dedication and hard work but the thing that matters is the effort that coaches put into their programs. Without the help of coaches, SA sports would not be what it is today. “I really loved coaching at St. Andrew’s,” Williams-Inman said. “Doing baseball here helped me become a better part and a more ingrained part of the community.”
