This summer, a bunch of new movies hit the theaters. Movies of all genres were released, attracting a diverse range of audiences. At St. Andrew’s, everyone differed on their favorite movie. Different movies attracted students for various reasons, including the genre, the cast, and the plot. The top three movies of the summer, according to SA students, were How to Train Your Dragon, Superman, and F1: The Movie.
The movie ranked as the third-best summer movie this year was How to Train Your Dragon. This is a fantasy movie that centers around a young Viking named Hiccup and his pet dragon. Throughout the movie, they must fight together to defeat the Red Death, who is a threat to their lives and species. This movie was a top favorite for 13.8% of those who filled out the survey. One student who loved this movie was Addie Larose: “I absolutely loved How to Train Your Dragon,” Senior Addie Larose said. “I enjoyed how it mixed action with friendship. I think every movie should be like this.”
The movie ranked as the second-best was Superman. Superman is an action-packed movie that follows Clark Kent as he deals with conflicts at home and abroad. Clark Kent must learn to deal with the backlash for his way of handling a war between the fictional nations Boravia and Jarhanpur. This movie was extremely popular within the SA community, with 25% of people selecting it as their favorite. “Superman was definitely my favorite movie that I watched,” Junior Sarah Dial Almand said. “I liked how it added a twist on the Superman that we already know by focusing more on his normal life.”
The movie that was ranked as the best summer movie was F1: The Movie. F1 follows Sonny Hays, a former F1 driver, as he attempts to get back into racing by joining a struggling team. This movie has been labeled as the “movie of the summer” by numerous people all over the world. SA students seem to agree because 27.5% of people said it was their favorite. “The F1 movie was fantastic,” Johnson said. “I honestly never knew what was going to happen, and the ending was great.”
Overall, the summer of 2025 was movie-packed, and there seemed to be something for everyone. “Honestly, every movie that I saw in theaters was great,” Larose said. “Pretty sure I went to the movies more than I ever have before.”
