Nicki’s New Album
May 15, 2021
On Thursday, May 11th, one of the biggest pop icons announced her return to music. Rapper Nicki Minaj announced that she would be re-releasing her iconic 2009 mixtape “Beam Me Up Scottie” along with three new singles, one featuring the original Yung Money crew with Drake and Lil Wayne. Minaj also told fans that she would be releasing an album and documentary soon for the next era of her career. Minaj had previously stated that she was retiring from music to build a family. While she has done plenty of features and made a few appearances, she has not made a solo work in three years since her studio album “Queen.”. While this album is a classic staple for any barb wanting to hear the original Nicki sound, I don’t necessarily think it’s the best option for new fans to listen to. While a couple of songs like “Itty Bitty Piggy” are catchy and fun, this album really just seems to be for nostalgic purposes. Out of the three new songs, “Fractions” is the only one that truly stands out. The queen of rap utilizes her iconic pen skills and writes a song full of quotable lyrics. “Crocodile Tears” and “Seeing Green” seem to be stuck in 2009, and, to me, were unnecessary additions to this album. Overall, I would rate this new album an 7.9/10
