In the past few years, the Grammys has been one of the most popular award shows in American television, but is it biased? In the most recent award show, over 90% of the nominees were men, and almost all winners were male.

“I think that the Grammys are biased. There are many other talented female artists that could’ve had a spot on the nominations” Sophomore Miles Baker said.

Not only is it biased towards gender, but also genre. In four major awards, Album of the Year, Record of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best New Artist, were all pop artists, and three were male.

“I think that the Grammys are biased towards genre, Kendrick Lamar should have won at least one of these awards” Sophomore John Mychal Warren said

CEO of the Grammys Neil Portnow states “Women need to step up [in music awards]”

“I don’t think women need to step up in music, rather the nominators should become less biased” Sophomore Kate Rodenmeyer said.
